Basic rules for hair care
We have gathered a few simple rules for hair care that will help improve the quality and condition of your hair.
Apply shampoo to the scalp
The main task of shampoo is to cleanse the scalp and roots from impurities, residues of styling products, and sebum. If you apply shampoo along the entire length, it will inevitably lead to over-drying of the hair. When you apply shampoo to the scalp, the majority of the product remains at the roots, where it is needed, and a smaller, already diluted with water, portion is distributed along the length of the hair without causing damage.
Apply conditioning products to the length of the hair
Masks and conditioners should be applied directly to the hair, avoiding contact with the scalp. Conditioning products envelop the hair with a thin protective veil. This is beneficial for the hair but can be harmful to the skin, as such a veil can clog pores and prevent the skin from breathing. The exception is masks and conditioners designed for the scalp.
Wash your hair with warm water
Hot water can dehydrate the skin, damage hair follicles, and stimulate the sebaceous glands, causing hair to get dirty faster. Cold water, on the other hand, constricts blood vessels and disrupts the nutrition of hair bulbs. In addition, it is difficult to thoroughly rinse hair with cold water after using shampoo and conditioner.
Don't forget about scalp massage
You can use a comb or a gua sha tool for this. Massage improves skin tone, circulation, and oxygenates cells - all of which positively affect the quality of the hair, making it thicker and promoting faster growth. You can dedicate 5-10 minutes to this ritual before bedtime; it is also a meditative procedure that promotes relaxation. For additional relaxation, warm the comb or tool under a stream of warm water.
Choosing cosmetic products
Consider the following parameters when choosing hair care products:
- If your hair gets greasy quickly, it indicates active sebaceous gland activity. In this case, choose shampoos for oily scalp.
- If you have dry and brittle hair, pay attention to restoring and moisturizing products that contain oils and vitamins.
- Colored hair can become dull and lifeless, so choose cosmetics that protect the color, make the hair shiny, and at the same time, restore them.
